Home batteries in the Netherlands — for expats, in English

A home battery stores the solar power you generate during the day so you can use it in the evening instead of feeding it back to the grid for little in return. With the Dutch net-metering scheme ending on 1 January 2027, that shift matters more than ever. Energie Morgen advises and installs across the country in English.

In short

A home battery lets you store your own solar power and use it later, which becomes the smart setup as the Dutch net-metering scheme (salderingsregeling) ends on 1 January 2027. Energie Morgen supplies modular smart batteries and installs them nationwide with English-speaking advice and a single point of contact. A battery pairs naturally with solar panels and, for the full step, the EnergieVrij package.

Why a home battery — and why now

  • Keep your own solar power. Store daytime production and use it in the evening instead of exporting it cheaply once net metering ends.
  • Beat the 2027 deadline. The net-metering scheme ends on 1 January 2027; a battery protects the value of the solar power you generate.
  • More self-sufficiency. Using more of your own energy means buying less from the grid at volatile prices.
  • English from start to finish. We advise, size the battery to your consumption and install it — all in English, with our own installers.

How a home battery works with your solar panels

During the day your solar panels often produce more than your home uses. Instead of exporting that surplus, a home battery stores it so you can draw on it in the evening and at night. Sizing matters: too small and you export power you could have kept; too large and you pay for capacity you rarely use. Our advisor sizes the battery to your actual consumption and solar production, and explains the trade-offs in English.

Why the 2027 net-metering change makes storage worthwhile

Until 1 January 2027 the salderingsregeling lets you offset exported solar power against imported power, so a battery is optional for many households. After that date, exported power earns far less, which sharply increases the value of storing and using your own energy. Installing a battery now — or planning for one — protects the returns on your solar investment for the years ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need a home battery if I already have solar panels?
Until 1 January 2027 net metering lets you offset exported solar power. After that, exported power earns far less, so storing your own power in a battery and using it in the evening keeps much more of its value.
What size battery do I need?
It depends on your consumption pattern and how much your panels produce. We size the battery to your actual usage so you store what you'd otherwise export without paying for capacity you rarely use — and we explain the trade-offs in English.
Can I add a battery to an existing solar system?
In many cases yes. During the advice call we check your current setup and tell you what's possible for your home, entirely in English.
Do you install throughout the Netherlands?
Yes. Energie Morgen has its own installers nationwide and guides expats in English from advice through installation and aftercare.
